So I don’t care if you think our paint stripper is out of place, ‘cos now I’m adding some other totally non toxic, totally safe water based stuff – although it has nothing to do with gardening. Artex was applied to thousands upon thousands of houses from 1970 to 1990 because it was so much cheaper and easier to apply than plaster.
When it comes to the removal of asbestos Artex the most important thing is what surface the Artex has been applied to. Removing more recent asbestos free, textured coatings can still expose you to dangerous dust particles. The alternatives would be to get a plasterer in and skim it all, which would end up being very expensive for the whole property but would give a smooth and professional finish; or to skim it yourself, which requires some practice, hard work chipping the big bits of artex off, and costs a bit more than x tex. I can only assume that these reviewers either didn't leave the product on for long enough - should be left for at least 3 hours before attempting to remove - or the artex they were attacking had a coat of paint over it.
